At a time when great ships subjugated the sea waves and the wind was fluttering the pirate flags, only one thing was talked about – treasures. Everyone dreamed of them, everyone wanted to discover them … But only the sea daredevils had the courage to reach for the most valuable – those that gave sensual and almost extrasensory experiences, those not to be tamed, those not to be locked. And yet. It is from these unique sensations and experiences, from gusts of winds from all over the world, from extraordinary stories and hundreds of kilometres of travels, that the Treasure Island brand was created – scented candles inspired by the adventurous and passionate pirate life.

Louisiana. A bit wild, mysterious, but so promising for the Laffite brothers. Pierre and Jean took a liking to the Gulf of Mexico and bravely plundered Spanish merchant ships to then smuggle the stolen goods into New Orleans. Barateria Bay was a perfect place for them. Overgrown with a dense vegetation, it seemed inaccessible and unfriendly, and therefore ideal for a safe haven for pirates. And although the Laffite brothers broke with the world of crime for a short time and risked their lives for the sake of the United States and won a favour from then-President Andrew Jackson, their pirate nature was unstoppable. Forced to abandon Barateria Bay, they took from it what is most valuable and what was to be associated forever with the years of their greatest glory …
Clew Bay off the coast of Western Ireland is the site of the conquest of the most dangerous female pirate – Grace O’Malley. Although male strength dominated all around, O’Malley was able to withstand the pressure and all conventions, creating her own fleet and a sailing clan that controlled the shores of the Green Island. Despite being captured and imprisoned for three years, she did not give up her profession, but in 1593 she surrendered to the English crown. She negotiated the release of her sons from prison with Elizabeth I, she also wanted to remove the then governor from the power, but the queen did not comply with it. O’Malley returned to a pirate life and continued to conquer English ships.
The Queen of Pirates, as she was called, became famous for her great courage and perseverance in the fight for Ireland’s independence. The strength of her character, combined with her extraordinary beauty, were a source of exceptional strength for her. Few of the sailors remained indifferent to her beauty, which often meant doom for the poor. Clew Bay, home of O’Malley, seemed perfectly integrated with its ruler. Inaccessible, interspersed with numerous islands, enchanting with its nature, attracting, tempting and intriguing. And although a lot has changed, it doesn’t take much to return to the bay it was in the days of the Queen of Pirates …
Bahamas, that’s a perfect place for holidays, relaxation, and getting away from everyday life. Pirates realized that, making New Providence and its capital Nassau their safe haven. Located in the centre of famous trade routes, the island was an ideal place to rest, stock up on provisions and plan new conquests. Charles Vane, Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard, who often chose New Providence as their meeting place, knew that very well. Until …
In 1710 the government of the Bahamas decided to limit pirate greed and debauchery and took the power over the island. From then on, New Providence ceased to be friendly to sea robbers, which forced them to choose a different destination. But something had survived …
Caribbean. Turquoise, warm waters and islands that tempt with their beauty and delight with the richness of nature. And among them there is Jamaica, the land of the most aromatic coffee and the most juicy, fleshy and wonderful fruits. This is where Port Royal is located – a refuge for pirates wandering the Caribbean waters. A refuge, but also a curse … Years of shameless plundering of Jamaican nature and appropriation of local goods brought their doom …
In 1720 the local authorities decided to hit the pirate community and fight the expansion of hostile forces on Jamaican land. However, the legends of pirate perseverance are still alive today. After all, Port Royal hosted not just anyone. Henry James, Charles Vane, the famous Calico … That’s for them the best coffee beans were found, the most velvety petals of Damask roses were picked, only them had no shortage of juicy berries every evening … And that’s what survived. Fragrances, aromas and flavours, which till these days blend with each other in unique compositions and wander around the island, awakening a desire to learn about fantastic, pirate adventures in children and reminding adults that the power of nature is unbending and has the value above all else ..
St. Mary (Ile Sainte-Marie) is an island off the coast of Madagascar, small but with great potential appreciated by such famous pirates as Captain Kidd, Thomas Tew and Henry Every. It was an ideal location for raids on European and Asian merchant ships. Here, too, in 1695, Henry Every organized one of the largest pirate attacks in history – on the Fateh Mohammed Gang-i-sawai ships – in which he got a loot of over 200 million dollars worth!
Legends say that on St. Mary’s Island they established a colony called Libertalia where pirates settled with their entire families and even formed a democratic government. How much truth is there – it is difficult to judge, but it is certain that the island created ideal conditions for living, because it was full of real treasures …
It is one of the most famous pirate places for a reason. Located in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Haiti, for years it has been the mainstay of all the thieves and bandits, as well as a pirate shelter. Even a brotherhood, called “Brothers of the Coast”, was organized there, gathering social outcasts who created their own code of conduct. Amidst the lush Caribbean nature, lawlessness and debauchery flourished under ideal conditions.
For years, Tortuga has been the target of pirates from England, the Netherlands and Portugal. With time, however, as a result of a depletion of nearby trade routes, it lost its importance in favour of the Gulf of Mexico. However, it is still a symbol of wildness, uncompromisingness and… a unique, pirate atmosphere. Everyone who wants to recreate it aims for what was the most intense on Tortuga …
